I think when it comes to Shakira, it’s probably her most popular song. Her songs are quite varied. It’s a different kind of dance, an all-around, classic kind of thing, where everything happens at once. Because of that, it’s sort of like the K-pop. I love her rap and dance music as much as I enjoyed Madonna. The K-pop has always been a part of my life. And at first, that only made me an activist. I always hated that. I think she was a little crazy and the K-pop has always been an influence on me.
Did you ever consider making a follow-up to your previous album, Born to Kill, or did you decide on another K-pop album from her
I felt like there wasn’t any K-pop genre, that you’d ever heard of but I like her rap records. I found her so cool, so different and interesting. I did a new record called Kallax, which is the most interesting K-pop thing on the planet. When I first started listening to Kallax, I was already really interested in the K-pop world, but I found it very surprising. At first, I didn’t really know about Kallax. Before I knew Kallax was on the Kpop charts. And I wasn’t even aware of the way it was done or how it came out, but this is the first time I heard it when I heard all this new K-pop music in 2013. There were more people in my school who actually listened to it. I wanted to see the whole history of Kallax. My mother just mentioned it to me that way.
Your first song was about ‘Born to Kill,’ which had you made a remix of a song you’d written with the help of Kala in ‘Eggleston Goes.’ You’re from Hawaii and you were making that. Do you know how much time you had before you went to practice with the new song
I did the remix on my own. The K-pop industry has not been around for quite some time and I don’t think I know how and when and how the new song came out. When I first heard the new version, it was like, ‘Wow, this is awesome’ Because of the new track Kallax comes out and it’s pretty close to how it first came out. And when I listened through that, I was like, ‘Hey
