In a nutshell, if you’re a startup that’s looking to raise 100 million in the next few months, you know that’s one of the things you’ll want to understand from this research. The more you know, the stronger the case the company makes for such a grant.
This research is part of the broader Breakthrough Innovation Series, a group of researchers led by John Rizzo, and co-sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. The Breakthrough Innovation Series is intended to help companies develop the technology that helps their businesses move forward, from startup to product.
Why was breakthrough innovation so important These new innovations have the potential to transform how we use technology on a global scale, enabling companies to meet the challenges we face as they build new markets and make smart money in those markets.
This report examines the data gathered by the Breakthrough Innovation Series, in part, by looking at those three industries that the researchers used to design breakthroughs. In all, the Breakthrough Innovation Series collected research that covers all three breakthrough industries technology, healthcare, and finance and was published this past December.
The Breakthrough Innovation Series has two important strengths. First, researchers use research done by independent companies to create new industries or to get investors to buy into a new company to see the benefit of the innovation they’ve built.
Second, the Breakthrough Innovation Series is based squarely on research done by government-funded organizations like the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Department of Education, Stanford researchers, and the National Endowment for the Humanities-sponsored Breakthrough Initiative.
What’s more, Breakthrough Innovation Series data is available online, as long as companies have not provided the information that the research does. Once an investment is announced, breakthroughs have the potential to be used to spur other public investments.
Who can participate
The Breakthrough Innovation Series is a joint academic and non-academic collaboration. You can follow your peers through the Breakthrough Innovation Series in the main forum and online chat room, and share stories about your efforts with fellow Breakthrough members.
