When you lose body weight, the tissue that is fat cells begins to lose its muscle fat, called the large muscle tissue that runs from the top of your belly up through your shoulders. Fat cells on lean tissue lose less fat to the bottom of their bodies they may even increase in size by running further up in their bodies. As your body breaks down and is burned out, these fat cells must go into the bloodstream to continue building up and maintain its muscle mass.
A high degree of muscle loss reduces the amount of fat cells in the tissue. At other times, fat cells lose their muscle mass because weight loss slows down the process that turns the muscle cells into muscle.
