AUGUSTA, GA (WWBP) - A Georgia man charged with shooting and killing two men and injuring another after police and law enforcement officers fatally tried to stop him from robbing someone has agreed to plead no contest to a felony charge of felony robbery.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said it found one victim near the scene of Saturday night’s shooting outside a bar.
Police arrived and arrested 21-year-old Zachary Johnson on a report of armed robbery at the bar. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail and later released.
Johnson was arrested Friday and charged with attempting to rob a law enforcement officer.
In court Friday morning, Johnson’s attorney, David Haney, said he has not decided whether he will plead no contest to the felony charges.
Prosecutors said Johnson acted reasonably to enter the victim’s home when he was confronted and acted without malice in making the attack.
The two men, 19-year-old Ryan Clark and 18-year-old Daniel McBride, are being held without bail in connection with the November shooting of two Jacksonville residents.
Johnson told police he had approached the couple because they were out of the bar and were trying to rob him as he left. The shooting wounded a 27-year-old woman in one of his cars. He also shot a 29-year-old man in a nearby house.
In court Friday afternoon, Johnson also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit homicide after
