A recent study of the impact of sex and pregnancy on children’s education and development concludes that both adolescents and young adults are at increasing risk of sexually transmitted infections. Research into how the risk of sex and pregnancy is influenced by socioeconomic status and sex hormones has been limited, but studies have been conducted since the 1970s, and in recent years there has been further advance in understanding the effects of gender and socioeconomic factors on child outcomes. The relationship between prenatal and postnatal sex and child development has largely been attributed to a link between male and female sex and hormone levels, but the relationship between maternal hormonal exposure and early pregnancy has been further restricted by the influence of prenatal and postnatal sex. The present study examined the effect of several socioeconomic factors on the influence of prenatal sex on the effect of early pregnancy on the development of adolescent and young adult sexual behavior.
