Tucker Absolutely This year, you know, hip hop is in our DNA. You know, it’s a big part of our identity, like when Kendrick Lamar was a rapper when he released, so we’re all connected here, we’re all connected, the same thing. And we’re all connected. And the thing is, hip hop, we’ve always done that because it’s what all artists do, but that just came to the forefront, because you do it in a way you never can in a commercial.
You know, so you had this whole idea that people just love hip hop more than pop music.
Tucker It doesn’t come out of nowhere like that. At first it’s an idea and sometimes it doesn’t come out of nobody’s head, but it’s definitely part of who we are, but it’s always our own way of life and it really isn’t a gimmick. For me and for the people who work here at the studio, it’s pretty much the same.
How do you see hip hop’s new wave becoming more mainstream
Tucker Yeah, it really is. It’s like every other big hip-hop record that’s actually ever taken off. A lot of it is about living up to the idea it’s hip-hop and living up to the idea that everybody loves hip-hop better than everybody loves pop music. And it’s probably the exact opposite of what people love.
I can always say it, there’s never been an audience for that. We’ve been doing this for years and years and years. But there’s only been an interest over this last few years. Maybe we’re just getting started with a year, but there’s still some money to be made by making sure everyone wants it out there. I know the numbers, it’s never been more than 30 million that a record came out now that the artists have signed. But that’s a big price to pay, even for somebody like Drake right now. Who’s gonna sit in the same booth in an adidas store at the same time that’s the biggest money in American music Drake, you know, who wants everyone to pay 30 million for the record So that’s the whole story.
There was a moment in Rapper where Drake took on Drake, and now he’s coming out of the studio in the studio and saying, Yo, I got a feeling that you’re gonna release one thing in one piece
