If the federal and state governments are doing the right thing and letting the farmers be paid, the farmer shouldn’t stop protesting.
The farming community, which is largely non-farmers, should not have to pay for farmers’ rights. If they do, it will not be because farmers do not want to take care of their livestock, it will be because they won’t provide enough food to feed the masses.
There is no need for ranchers, ranchers, and ranchers’ unions to fight this bill just because ranchers and their political opponents are against it. These were established as rights before the American people (and so should be understood).
This bill is not about the farmer, it is about the rancher. But even if we were to get ranchers to pay for their livestock, it still would not make the farmers more than they were before. If we’re going to keep ranchers and farmers together, it needs to be able to keep them together. It needs to be able to continue organizing and supporting the farmer’s business when people are fed. It needs to be able to continue to organize and support this food security program when folks don’t have enough food for their diets. It needs to be able to continue to organize and support this civil rights program when people don’t have enough food for their diets.
This is why I am not supporting this bill because of the bill’s financial implications or the economic consequences. Because it’s not about the farmer, it’s about the government taking care of their livestock when it isn’t working.
This bill makes it possible for ranchers, ranchers, and ranchers’ unions to create what I call good neighbor laws. These laws are an attempt to stop government’s involvement in the ranching industry.
Good neighbor laws only come with a few restrictions. These restrictions should be put at the top of your bill that would take into consideration all other things of interest to ranchers including the amount of meat and animals that ranchers and their unions could be subject to under the new regulations.
If ranchers, ranchers, and ranchers’ unions can create this good neighbor law they should be asked what they would do if it were to occur.
