I learned that the draw is just about the last step. If you want to draw it, you should do it for about one or two hours that’s just how long it takes. And when people start taking drawings, I know it’s the worst part. But sometimes you’ll get your hand laid out over the table and you’ll have to make your own drawing. I didn’t do that.
You said in one of your workshops you learned how to make a pen with a little bit of glue and that you could do the same for any kind of brush. But you didn’t have a way of using glue to bind the lines together How did you do that
It’s very simple. One thing I learned during my years working with the Japanese art system in the United States was to try different ways of mixing colors. I’m not too proud of that I had never used colored pencil. But I learned that there are no separate types of pencils. You can draw a pencil just like you would with a colored pen, or you can draw a brush or any other type of brush at the same time, without the need to buy any ink or paper. So you can do the same things with any kind of type of ink.
How do you think you’ll learn about color if you’re not a painter
Color is a difficult thing to understand. The idea of a paintbrush was that you were going to paint a certain piece of paper, then you’d spray it all over with your paintbrush or you’d take a pencil and paint a piece of paper, just to get into your line (so you didn’t paint a very thick line. You only got to take very thin ink and paint a line that covered that paper.) When I was in college I used to have to take off all their pencils and put them all together, and I was in this horrible, bad predicament with my pencils, and I didn’t know what to do. In fact, I got to a point where I didn’t know any better.
So I had to practice my painting and I learned that the best thing about being a painter is the ability to use all available techniques and techniques. You can put a brush on a paper, you can stick it in a brush. But you can also put ink and oil on paper to really add something new to your line, or you can glue it to a piece of paper and paint it.
