On May 14th 2007 at an event where more than 150 people from around the world attended, Japanese actor Shinsuke Saito, a prolific comic book editor and comic book creator, drew the line at an audience which included comic book nerds, artists, and others who had never been able to have a real connection with the series. That event is a reminder of how little we can really learn from manga and how hard it is to work toward something as good as this, he told the crowd, which included some of the more than 150 people at the event, according to two witnesses. Because of the kind of comic that you’re supposed to work towards, you can’t get something like this to stand.

The event garnered the attention of many in the Japanese media, including major magazines, newspapers, and news outlets, which published the story of Saito’s experience. At one point, a photo appeared on a popular manga website and one of the posters had a picture of a person who did not understand how comics were for those who don’t even read them. (Saito’s experience was even noted by a magazine editor on its cover, as it featured photographs of the man, who has since died, with his arm, presumably from leukemia. However, the comic is still available through Wikipedia, thanks in part to an anonymous user named ShioSaito who recently created a dedicated page dedicated to the story.) The Japanese media
