In their own way, the NFL’s current owners had some nice things to say about Baltimore Ravens running back Brian Hoyer yesterday. After seeing him beat the Carolina Panthers for the starting quarterback job as the team’s No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft it was clear the Ravens didn’t have a problem with the former first-round pick going on his way to being the most popular quarterback on draft night.
Hoyer finished the day by getting caught five times for nine yards – four of which coming on a touchdown pass between the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots.
It was the biggest offensive display of Hoyer’s potential, and it was a good one. He completed a whopping 58.8 percent of his passes in his own 35 second and 2 yard drill, and with seven first downs on a game-tying third down, the Ravens turned to him for a few final plays that were great for their offense and for their chances of winning.
There had been several issues with the run game in his NFL debut in 2013, and the play that was not even mentioned earlier (like the one before the game when he ran for four yards off a defender over the middle before being tackled) is more notable by itself than one of his numbers.
